Krise im Sudan: 40.000 Kinder auf der Flucht

Nur wenige Wochen vor der Unabhängigkeit des Südsudan eskaliert der Konflikt um die Grenzregion Abyei. Tausende Menschen sind auf der Flucht. Save the Children schätzt, dass darunter etwa 40.000 Kinder sind.
Unsere Mitarbeiterin Kristina Granqvist war vor wenigen Wochen in Abyei und berichtet:
“I was in Abyei a few weeks ago and was taken aback at the constant threat of violence that seemed to linger in the air, even then. I spoke to Awen, a 70 year old grandmother who told me “we’re worried and afraid. The children can’t play outside like they are used to. Sometimes we move between different relatives’ villages, but then it becomes difficult to grow things. The children then don’t get enough to eat. We must also be prepared to flee”. Almost certainly Awen and her family have now been forced to flee.
